Wise words from my colleague, the Rev. Om Prakash Gilmore. Words that I’ve been meditating on while the drone of CNN fills my house, a sound I’m not usually here for, but it helps my roommate work. The constant onslaught of violence of both body and spirit can be overwhelming. To pay attention feels exhausting, but to not pay attention feels like an abdication of responsibility. These words from Om Prakash resonate deeply with me, even as they come from outside my faith tradition. There is Truth in many truths, and here is one of them:
“The path of the mystic is about returning to who and what we are and always have been. Like many trees, flowers, plants, and shrubs, insects, animals and even micro organism, we are all the complete expression of trillions of vessels of life while at the same time a singular expression of the “I” that we carry with us every day of our lives… We carry our homes in our hearts. For home is anywhere we find love, which can be here and now if we choose.”
Whew. that’s a word, right there. May we choose hear and now, as often as possible.
