I am still in love with America

I am still in love with America. An America that is yet to be.

An America that is great to all her citizens and to all those who seek her shores for asylum, liberty, opportunity, and safety.

An America that strives for the highest ideals, rather than settling for low hanging fruit.

An America that isn’t led by angry and fearful men, but is led by brave and hopeful people.

An America that is honest about her dark history and convicted about her bright future.

An America where we argue over how much money to put towards repairing bridges in which state first, rather than arguing about who counts as a human being and who deserves to be treated as we would want ourselves to be.

An America that is a beautiful rainbow of parfait and gumbo Diversity where everyone is seen for who they are and the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

An America that shares, rather than withhold.

An America that dances, rather than seek revenge.

I am still in love with America. An America that is yet to be. But that America can start today. Right here. Right now.

When folks use the term, “Amen” it is a word of hope that means, “May it be so, may it be truth, may it be certain.”

For the America that is yet to be, even after centuries, let all the Prisoners of Hope say, “Amen.”
